Dee, Ichiban Japanese Restaurant - Tanjung Duren

Sunday, 2 March 2014, Ondy will treat me for his post degree graduation day few weeks ago. And we are craving for Japanese food, and found that Japanese restaurant just opened few days back nearby my area. So we decided to try it.

Ichiban, sound bit familiar, I don't know related with Ichiban Sushi chain's or not, but the logo and interior is different.

My first impression when I saw the menu list is "wooow so cheap!, is it eatable?", Okay, we will not know if we don't dare to try. what! they have sambal sauce in house, I never trust japanese restaurant with sambal sauce x))

We ordered some fussion roll, california - rainbow salmon - crunchy - chicken katsu - fish katsu, beef spicy ramen, sake sashimi, steamed gyoza, unfortunately chuka idako was out of stock and they don't serve unagi (it is a big minus).

Sashimi 20K - 27K
Sushi roll around 15K - 32K.
Udon 13K - 35K
Ramen 20K - 27K
Tempura Set 25K - 40K
Bento Set 25K - 40K
Appetizer 10K -25K

very cheap!!

Okay, first I will try the sashimi, fresh and eatable, good impression

Next, they serve our sushi roll, Bit plain for the california and rainbow salmon, but chicken katsu roll is my favorite, 15K with tender chicken, where dan you get like this?!

I didn't take photo of beef spicy ramen, only 26K, the taste is good, clear soup without lard.. x)

So, overall I give 7/10 for this restaurant, the biggest plus is price with all dishes we ordered, only 165K, I will come often for dinner after back from office with this cheap price. I will try another menu, and maybe can recommended another menu.

Dee, Ikkudo Ichi Ramen, PIK

Lia was in town, so we arranged to meet and had lunch together. We are craving for ramen, and ended at Ikkudo Ichi Ramen.

The restaurant is quiet busy, and full of customers, but not long queue as Ikkousha Ramen. The negative point of their service is no wifi in restaurant. They don't want their customer to stay too long in their limited seat! :p

I ordered tonkotsu ramen with extra tamago. I asked them to make the tamago bit raw, but ended with fully cooked, bit disappointed. We also order pork cheeks for appetizer. The pork cheeks was good, very lovely meat, and melted in my mouth. With their price, it is so affordable if compare with Shantouka Ramen, best ramen in town, Ikkudo offers slightly cheaper than Shantouka.

And back to the main dish, the ramen is good. Their soup is also good, not too oily and tasted as fresh bone with the meat, I like it very much, compare with Ikkousha with extra lard and oily soup, IMHO Ikkousha is not recommended ramen restaurant.

Overall for Ikkudo, I give 7.5/10, please try if you are in PIK area, better than Ikkousha Ramen.

Dee, Baikohken

Location: Baikohken (Takashimaya Branch)

Charsiew Pork with Tamago Egg (SGD 19)

Itadakimasu. As usual, I like to try Ramen restaurant in any style at Singapore, so I was try Baikohken (hope I spell it in right way). This time, I will to try another style on reviewing (give me comment, if you don't like). ^^

Menu : Shio Charsiew Ramen with Tamago Eggs

Soup : (3/10)
Hmm... I think that I ordered pork soup, but taste like chicken soup with lots of MSG! How come Singapore restaurant served food like this? Very poor, I don't like it.

Noodles? Why not ramen? : (4/10)
I think that I ordered ramen, not instant noodles. Looks like Maggie, and Indonesia Indomie, taste better..

Porks : (6.5/10)
Not very tender, Marutama still the best! Bit salty ( I don't like salty food), but fresh meat.

Egg : (7/10)
The egg was very good, perfect cook Tamago, very tender, taste good.

Beansprouts : (5/10)
I told you all before, the best beansprouts at Ramen Nation, and this one with the price, the beansprouts is not good at all

Portion : (7/10)
The portion is really BIG, but unfortunately poor taste and not cheap also (SGD 19), but I got very big pork slices meat! The bowl was jammed, full with pork and noodles. It was very difficult to flip anything and fear of the soup spilling over the sides of the bowl or the eggs tumbling down, honestly they do better to use bigger bowl! The bowl is too small. You need extra minutes to finish the ramen.

Service : (6/10)
Just like another restaurant at Singapore, long queue, and not easy to find place to eat.

Price : (5/10)
SGD 19, poor soup and noodles, many restaurants better than this place.

Overall (5.5/10)
Honestly this is another rarely restaurant, serve real thing bigger than the picture! For Ramen costed about SGD 19, they must improve many things, especially on their soup and noodles, not using MSG and buy bigger bowl. If their cost about SGD 10 like Indonesian Ramen Restaurant, maybe still can cosider to revisit, but for SGD 19, I think better say goodbye (/.\)

NB : They didn't serve hot Ocha! I don't know why...

Dee, Ramen Nation, Jurong Point

I was at Jurong Point Mall Singapore, I don't know what to eat here. I don't like the mall, too crowded and long queue in every restaurant! At least 10 peoples, queueing in front of in every restaurant at the mall, even the chinese food restaurant maybe go more than 20 peoples! My friend said the food is not cheap, but it nice, I am still thinking, how nice the food make it worthed to queue for about an hour? Ah, I don't want to try, just find a short queue restaurant for me. I wanted japanese food, craving for ramen. Honestly I want Marutama Ramen, but I must go to Clarke Quay, then forget it, just find Ramen Restaurat/Japanese restaurant at Jurong Point and the shortest queue.

My friends asked me to queue at Ichiban Sushi. Do you kidding me??! Even at Jakarta I don't want to eat at Ichiban Sushi, and now you are asking me to queue at Ichiban Sushi for more than 20 peoples still queueing there?! Aiyooooh! I prefer don't eat anything lar.. Hahaha... But all Japanese restaurant is full, everywhere is queueing! I was hungry and I prefer the shortest queue, and I found the Ramen Nation was the shortest queue, 'just' 8 peoples in the queue. Okay, we were IN!

By the way, just for me or us, mostly Singaporean doesn't allow to take picture at the mall or restaurant. Altough I took my camera, I didn't be allowed to take any pictures there. But, I tried to take picture from my Blackberry without any voice and nobody know! I wanna share it for you, and you! Yes, you! My dearest readers. Hahaha...

Ramen Nation

And here we go, I ordered the Kyoto Pork Charsiew Ramen. The ramen served with Kyoto Ramen, 5 slices of pork charsiew, bean sprouts, half boiled egg, seaweed, and chives. I added sesame oil, pepper, soyu sauce and bit fish oil there.. And taraaa... I like the ramen soup! The pork soup is nice, the balance of seasoning and ingridients are good, not like Hakata Ikkousha which full with lard, euuuw.. I swear it was the first and last one I taste Hakata Ikkousha! The ramen at Ramen Nation, hmmm.. not too nice, just like Indonesian bakmi, so nothing special. The pork charsiew is good, but Marutama Ramen still the best one! But the most interesting ingridient there is bean sprouts! Yeah, the best bean sprouts ever in the soup. I don't know how to describe it, but the bean sprouts was really chewy on the mouth, and the texture was so good. It must be boiled perfectly by the chef. I will try to get the same texture and taste someday!

Kyoto Pork Charsiew Ramen

For the side dish, I ordered Chicken Karage, fried boneless chicken breast, and just so so. I am too full by the ramen. The side dished cost me SGD 5.50, yeah bit too expensive for side dish. (6/10)

Chicken Karage (Boneless Breast)

The ramen is not cheap, SGD 17.90 per portion for 5 slices or pork charsiew. I think a bit overprice if comparing with Indonesian price, but for Singapore price, it was worthy for every cent you paid. It was finger licking good if you ordered the bean sprouts soup! Hahaha.. But, I was eat ramen, not bean sprout soup, so SGD 17.90 was overprice! (6.5/10) If you compare with Sanpachi, yeah for me Ramen Nation is better than Sanpachi or Hakata Ikkousha, Ajisen or Gokana ramen not on my list at all.

By the way, I want to try Santouka Ramen at Plaza Indonesia, it opened at 16 May 2012 at Plaza Indonesia Mall. Sentouka Ramen is Hokkaido style ramen. They just served 20 portion pork cheek's everyday, due to very limited supply at Indonesia. So, just wait my review for Santouka Ramen, I wish I can try soon their pork cheek. Be patient!
